Bubba Watson misses British Open cut after Road Hole meltdown

Bubba Golf is a funny thing. Sometimes it's awe-insipring; others it's self-destructive. It was the latter on Saturday at the British Open.

Watson's second shot into the par-4 17th at St. Andrews went long and left and up against the wall behind the road that runs behind the green. Instead of trying to play a ricochet shot off the wall and back toward the Road Hole green, Watson, who was visibly angry throughout the ordeal, chose a lay-up of sorts for his third shot.

With his fourth shot from the eponymous road beyond the green, Watson then putted the ball through the rough, then through the green and off on the side with the Road Hole bunker.

In the end, it was a triple-bogey 7 for Watson that sent him from 1-over and on the cusp of making the cut to well below the cut line and on a flight for Florida. A meaningless birdie at the 18th put Watson at 3-over 147 with a second-round 76.
